  • Medium Capacity
  • Medium Length
  • Rightline Gear
  • Black

This cargo bag lets you carry your gear on the rear of your vehicle while leaving your hitch free for a trailer or bike rack. Included clips and straps let you attach bag to your roof rack or to the rear hatch door on vehicles without a roof rack.

Features:

  • Cargo bag lets you carry gear on back of your vehicle with or without a roof rack
    • Lets you use your roof rack to carry kayaks, bikes, skis, and other gear
    • Great alternative to a hitch-mounted cargo carrier when you are already towing a trailer
    • Does not cause the aerodynamic drag that's common with rooftop cargo bags - saves you gas money
  • Waterproof, PVC semi-coated mesh XT keeps cargo clean and dry
    • Blocks UV rays to help prevent fading - rated UPF 50
    • Welded seams help block out moisture
  • Urethane-coated zipper and 1-1/4" protective flap keep water out
    • Zipper pulls have slots that allow you to lock the bag closed and secure it to your roof
  • Tent-pole-like framing in the bottom adds support and structure for loading gear
  • Roof protection pads help to keep the straps from rubbing on your roof
  • License plate sleeve on the rear of the bag lets you relocate your plate if the bag covers it
  • Built-in straps attach the carrier to the back of your vehicle and your roof rack
    • Top straps are threaded through your roof-rack side rails or rear crossbar and joined with a plastic clip
    • Bottom straps attach to your bumper or hitch, or underneath your bumper
    • Long support strap belts the bag tightly to your hatch
  • Includes 2 clips to attach the carrier to a vehicle without a roof rack
  • Sturdy handles on each side help you install and remove the carrier

Specs:

  • Application: SUVs, minivans and crossover vehicles with roof racks
    • Vehicles must have at least 40" of space between the tail lights
  • Carrying capacity: 13 cu ft
  • Weight capacity: 100 lbs
  • Dimensions: 40" long x 20" wide 28" tall
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: Do not exceed your roof rack's weight capacity when using the cargo carrier. Add the weight of all the cargo on the roof plus the weight of the packed carrier to be sure the total does not exceed your roof's carrying capacity.

Pack Right cargo carrier resting on back of SUV

The Rightline Gear Car Back carrier lets you haul your gear on the back of your vehicle. It includes straps and clips that let you attach it to your roof rack or to your rear hatch door, and it frees up your hitch so you can also tow a trailer, or carry a bike rack. Since it rests on the back of your vehicle it's more aerodynamic than roof-mounted cargo carriers, it avoids rain and bug splatter, and is easy to load and unload.

Loads and Unloads Quickly

Pack Right cargo carrier resting on back of SUV

It can be hard to access a bag that is mounted to your vehicle's roof. Since this bag is mounted to the back of your vehicle it's alwasy going to be easy to reach. And it eliminates the need to climb on your vehicle to grab something from the carrier. Load the bag either before you hang it on your vehicle or while it's suspended from the back. A handle on each side of the carrier carrier makes the bag easy to lift on and off your vehicle.

This cargo bag is also great if you're already carrying skis, snowboards, bikes, or another cargo bag on your roof and need a place to carry more luggage.

Tent Pole Framing Helps carrier Hold Its Shape

Tent-pole framing on bottom of Rightline Gear PackRight saddle bagCloseup of steel framing on bottom of Rightline Gear saddle bag

Lightweight, tent-pole-like framing on the bottom of the bag helps it hold its shape so that it doesn't fold over onto itself. This makes it easier to load and unload your cargo.

PVC Semi-Coated Mesh XT

Closeup of Sport Jr. cargo bag material and inner PVC layer

The bag is made of PVC semi-coated polyester mesh XT. The material is treated with WeatherGuard and blocks 98 percent of UV rays to help prevent fading. The PVC material is also strengthened with a nylon grid that helps prevent rips and tears. This waterproof fabric stays flexible in hot or cold temperatures so it can be folded for compact storage.

Easy Installation

Rightline Gear cargo carrier hanging from rear crossbar of luggage rackPack Right cargo bag straps attached to vehicle hitch

The carrier rests on the back of your vehicle, suspended from your roof rack's side rails or rear crossbar by two sturdy straps. Two bottom straps on the bag attach to your bumper or hitch, or underneath your bumper.

If you don't have a roof rack there are 2 clips included that let you mount the bag to your rear hatch door.

Padding between vehicle and cargo straps of Rightline Gear saddle bag

Soft pads at the top of each cargo strap protect your vehicle from scratches while the bag hangs from your luggage rack.

Pack Right cargo bag with long strap tightened like a belt to hold the carrier in place

Tighten the long support strap around the bag and your vehicle's hatch like a belt.

If you don't have a roof rack, you can mount the bag on the top of your hatch door using the 2 included car clips.

To lock up the bag during pit stops, run a Rightline Gear locking cable (RL100640 - sold separately) through the cutouts in the zipper pulls.

License plate sleeve on Rightline Gear cargo bag

The carrier comes with a license plate sleeve so that you can display your plate even if the bag is blocking a clear view of your tag.

Drawstring storage bag for Rightline Gear cargo saddle bag

The bag also includes a sack for storage. And the setup instructions are sewn into the stuff sack, so you'll always be ready to saddle up and go.

I have a Nissan NV 200 cargo van. This lets me carry stuff without being cartop and reducing mileage and in lieu of little trailer to reduce speeds to less than interstate highways. It it can ride high enough that the backup camera is not blocked. This appears to be WELL MADE. There was no cartop carrier so I have fasteners 300# rated with SS bolts to the factory provisions for a carton carrier. Just use rated carabiner to attach straps.

Love this bag! We load all our snowmobile gear in it and put it in the bed of our pick up truck. Keeps it dry during our driving trip and it’s only one trip to/from Truck to motel room. Great investment !

by:

We used this for vacation this year and it worked wonderfully. In the past we have always used to rooftop carriers but I always found those hard to maneuver. This is very easy to attach and load/unload. Plus you can store it in a closet on vacation. Highly recommend.

Would the saddlebag work on a 2009 Rav 4 with the spare tire still attached to the back door?

Patrick B.

7/15/2013

I called up Rightline and found out that it will not work on the back of vehicle with a rear mounted spare: RAV 4, CR-V, Wrangler. The bag sits too far from the vehicle to work. We do have a spare tire mounted cargo basket that may work out for you. It's from Surco, part SPSJ4319.

thanks for the review...We are planning for a 2000Miles trip in couple of months and will be driving a 15 seater Van Chevrolet Express. Will this fit on it. It has sliding doors on side and double door at the back.thanks.

Patrick B.

10/2/2013

It could be used on your Express van. If you do not have any sort of roof rack or roof rails, you will also need to add part RL100605. These are clips that will allow you to secure the top straps to the top edges of the double doors. Do keep an eye on these as you load the bag.

Thanks for rushing my Packright Saddlebag to me. This is my 3rd one. I LOVE IT. Also add camping gear above it in the summer. Use it in my business travels. People stop me all the time & ask about it. Will refer them to you.

by:

Worked Great! kept everything dry.
We
mounted a bike rack, under and behind it, using a hitch step extension. We looked like the Beverly Hill Billies with everything we had on the back but we had zero issues!

by:

Not worth wasting your money.
Just
buy a hard cover

by:

This bag held a lot and was fairly easy to mount on my Subaru, even tho I had failed to buy the needed clips. The zipper was hard to use, but very sturdy. However, it leaked!! It was on the back of my car through an all-night soft rain and by the time I arrived an hour away at our location, half of the things inside needed to be dried out somewhat. That was very disappointing. So I will not trust its' rain-worthiness again.

by:

Product worked out great. We used it while camping last weekend. TRhe only disadvantage is that it hangs right on the air fin above the rear window. We are worried it may casue it to break. We have a couple of ideas how to rectify this, and will let you know how it goes.

Also, customer service was great. I had questions, and there was a helpful, quick response.

by:

We bought this for our family to move across country. We used it on the back of a Honda Odyssey. It worked great. We had to remove it to open the lift gate, but it was easy for two adults to do.

by:

Very pleased with how quickly this shipped and I received it. I assembled in a few minutes. I can tell that this product is built to be waterproof, and will be able to withstand wear and tear of the road. From the directions this looks easy to install. The nice thing about this product is it can be loaded and then strapped on instead of trying to load it on top of the car!

by:

Easy to install and use. Kept boxes and gifts safe while travelling home for the holidays. A nice, cheaper alternative to a rooftop carrier.

by:

This item worked great. I moved from California to South Dakota in a Chevy Equinox and I was able to pack extra stuff in saddlebag and have room in the car for my grandkids.

by:

Nice products well constructed. fits all my surf and ski stuff.

The only cons is getting it to be squared when it is not fully filled.Specially when mixing clothes and ski boos and anything harder

I ended up using a PVC box in the inside to give it the from I needed.

Pablo C.

Great way to carry Ski stuff and other sporting goods. I fully recommend it. just be sure to secure tight.

by:

Fantastic service and fast shipping. Thank you!

by:

This is a lifesaver! It allows us the extra space we need for packing for big trips. It is a little tricky to get on the car, and a little floppy while loading, but these are minor inconveniences. We are very happy with this product and would recommend.

Arrived fast. Very nice bag.

I have a 2008 Ford Edge...will this work for it. The Edge has that spoiler looking flair off the back made of plastic, and I am worried the straps, when weighted down, will break that spoiler off. What do you think?

Patrick B.

4/29/2014

It would depend on what you're hauling in the bag. If you're hauling anything of weight, I would steer clear of this bag because those top straps will have a lot of weight. A hitch mounted carrier or roof mounted carrier or bag would be better. Does your Edge have a hitch or any type of a roof rack or rails?

Debi

Kia sorrento fit?

Patrick B.

6/9/2014

Rightline Gear doesn't have a fit guide for this item, it's not really vehicle specific. As long as you have a roof rack that you can attach the straps to and some good anchor points on the underside like a hitch, the bag should work.

by:

Product came quickly and in great shape. Haven't got to use it yet but I am sure it will do the job.

by:

Great service & great product. Just what we all hope for - $ well spent.

  • Will the Rightline Gear Cargo Hatch Saddlebag # RL100B90 Fit a 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon
The Rightline Gear Cargo Hatch Saddlebag # RL100B90 doesn't necessarily have a "fit guide" since it has adjustable straps. It should work well for your 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon but you can use the 40" x 20" x 28" dimensions to mock up an example so you can see how it will sit on your vehicle. Please note that the weight of this back and any cargo you have inside will count as roof/ roof rack weight. Be sure that you don't overload your vehicle or your roof rack when using this in addition...

For your 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon I recommend taking a measurement to see if you have the needed clearance to make sure you do not block your tail lights when using the Rightline Gear Roof Cargo Carrier, part # RL100B90. In order to make certain it does not interfere with your tail lights, you will need at least 40 inches between your tail lights. The bag is 28 inches tall and 20 inches deep. You can definitely use the Rightline Gear Cargo Hatch Saddlebag # RL100B90 along with a bag like part # RL100S30 with your 2011 Volvo XC60 as long as you are not exceeding the weight capacity of your roof rack or vehicle (check your owner's manual). These carriers have a combined weight of 20 lbs so you will need to subtract that from your cargo total. A roof rack is required for the Hatch Saddlebag. I have an option for you to carry a cargo bag at the rear of your 2013 Honda fit, but due to the size and design of the spoiler on your 2013 Honda Fit I would not recommend using the Rightline Cargo Bag part # RL100B90 as it would put too much strain on your spoiler. Rightline doesn't recommend using the # RL100B90 Cargo Hatch Saddlebag on the rear of a vehicle with a rear mounted spare tire. The saddlebag is meant to be held flat against the rear hatch of the vehicle, and the spare tire would prevent that. The further away from the hatch the saddlebag is, the more weight will be applied to the top fastening straps. This could damage the straps or the attachment points to the vehicle. Installing a hitch and using a cargo carrier would be a much better...
